About Us

From Little Acorns...

The first acorn of what Tempest Photography would one day become was sown in the mind of Horace Tempest, as he pedalled a bicycle and trailer loaded with photography equipment from school to school in Nottingham in the 1930s.

Having enjoyed early success, on June 16th, 1942, despite being heavily involved in the war effort as a firefighter with the Nottingham Fire Service, Horace registered Tempest Photography as a Private Limited Company.

It was the beginning of an adventure that took the business from Nottingham to Cornwall, and saw it grow into the industry’s most trusted and talented photography company.

As we move beyond eight decades of school photography, some of the faces may change but the passion is ever-present.

Today, the name Tempest Photography is a watchword for quality and service, smiles and celebration. It remains a family run business but has grown to become a business for so many families throughout the UK and beyond.

The desire to give our customers the very best continues to drive us in 2025, just as it did young Horace, back in 1942.
